Paul Zahra joined the Public Service in 1984
as part of the Economic Division within the Office the Prime
Minister. Between 1989 and 1992 he was Personal Assistant of
the Economic Secretary and the Chief Economic Officer in the
Ministry of Finance. In 1993 he was appointed as Head of the
Economic Policy Division and subsequently as Director (Economic
Strategy) and Director General (Economic Policy). From 2001
he served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Economic
Services and Ministry of Finance. He is also the Chairman of
the State Aid Monitoring Board. Mr Zahra was appointed as Permanent
Secretarty in the Office of the Prime Minister (Policy) in March
2006 and was redesignated as Permanent Secretary (Operations)
in the Office of the Prime Minister in June 2008. Together with
his present responsibilities he was also appointed as Acting
Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Education, Employment
and the Family in June 2010.
